Gov. Kelly Armstrong met with President Donald Trump at the White House to thank him for recent executive orders aimed at supporting coal energy and improving the U.S. electric grid's reliability and security. The orders signed by Trump are designed to remove federal restrictions put in place during the Biden administration concerning coal-fired power plants. Armstrong emphasized the importance of these actions for U.S. energy dominance and enhanced oil recovery.
"North Dakota stands ready to partner with the Trump administration to roll back regulations and reset the national narrative on dispatchable energy from coal and natural gas to ensure that all Americans have access to reliable, affordable electricity," said Armstrong. He further expressed gratitude for Trump's efforts to support baseload electricity and enhance the electric grid. "We appreciate President Trump’s executive orders supporting baseload electricity and a stronger, more stable electric grid to serve our citizens, grow our economy and make America energy dominant," Armstrong added.
In addition to the meeting with President Trump, Armstrong met other members of the state's congressional delegation. Armstrong, Trump, and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum later joined together to congratulate the North Dakota State University Bison football team. The team was recognized at the White House for winning the national championship in January in the Football Championship Subdivision of NCAA Division I college football, securing their 10th FCS national title in 14 seasons.
