Dickinson State University's School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SoBE) is actively engaging with the local community through strategic partnerships with businesses and nonprofits. By collaborating with organizations like the Southwest Art Gallery & Science Center (SWAGSC), SoBE aims to enhance student learning and prepare future professionals.
Recently, Dr. Arogundade from DSU visited SWAGSC, a cultural hub in downtown Dickinson known for its art exhibits and creative classes. The visit included a tour of the facility by SWAGSC's executive director, Dustin Young, who shared insights into upcoming renovations and the center's vision for serving the Dickinson community.
“Partnering with DSU provides our organization with opportunities to collaborate with students, professors, and administrators to improve the community of Dickinson and southwest North Dakota,” noted Young. He emphasized the ongoing collaboration with DSU's Art and Science Departments and the TR Honors Program.
Dr. Arogundade expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “It’s truly inspiring to see both DSU and SWAGSC dedicated to advancing the intellectual, social, and cultural development of North Dakota,” he said. The shared goals of promoting learning and creativity form the foundation of this collaboration.
The partnership involves DSU's Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP), where students assist with events and gallery operations. Madison Beckler, a DSU junior, highlighted the integration of science and arts into the community. “Through my involvement with SWAGSC this past year, I’ve seen how Dustin is integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) into the Dickinson community in impactful and enjoyable ways,” she shared.
One key initiative is SWAGSC's use of DSU’s Discovery Dome, an inflatable structure for educational films. This outreach tool is designed for young audiences, covering topics like astronomy and dinosaurs, and has proven effective in extending DSU’s educational programs.
Through these collaborations, DSU’s SoBE fosters an environment of creativity and learning, essential for preparing future business leaders. The school remains committed to supporting the region’s cultural and educational growth and looks forward to future partnerships.
