Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota recently held a virtual roundtable focused on the agricultural sector. Joining her were House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson and leaders from several North Dakota agricultural organizations. The meeting addressed challenges such as trade uncertainties, strict regulations, and the significance of enacting a 5-year Farm Bill.
The event brought together representatives from the North Dakota Farm Bureau, North Dakota Farmers Union, as well as various growers' associations, including those representing soybean, grain, corn, and sugarbeet sectors. Discussions aimed to ensure that policymakers understand the prevailing issues facing these producers.
“North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers are the backbone of our economy and our communities. I want to make sure House Ag leaders hear directly from our producers about the challenges they face—rising input costs, decreasing prices, and market uncertainty. These conversations with our state’s Ag leaders are essential as we work to protect and strengthen North Dakota agriculture,” Fedorchak stated.
Chairman Thompson reiterated his support for passing a robust Farm Bill promptly. He highlighted the importance of bolstering crop insurance, increasing reference prices, and expanding funding for market access and foreign market development programs. Thompson also promised to enhance research funding and extend tax provisions crucial for the agricultural community.
“Thank you, Chairman Thompson, for your strong commitment to rural America and for taking time to hear directly from North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers. We look forward to having you out to North Dakota for a ‘boots and blue jeans’ conversation soon,” Fedorchak concluded.
