North Dakota has launched its official "State Data Hub", a centralized platform designed to enhance data use and impact across the state. The initiative, led by North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT), aims to support better outcomes for citizens and communities through improved data utilization.
The platform will initially include dashboards and data provided by the North Dakota Department of Commerce’s State Data Center. This data offers insights into demographics, economic development, and socioeconomic factors. Over time, the hub will expand to incorporate additional data from other state agencies, thereby facilitating access for decision-makers and the public.
The development of the Data Hub is a significant aspect of the Statewide Data Strategy launched by NDIT in 2022. Kim Weis, NDIT Chief Data Officer, stated, “The vision of this effort is to harness the value of data to help North Dakota thrive. The State Data Hub enables agencies to collaborate with the use of trusted data — essential to creating a government that is not just efficient, but also responsive to the needs of its citizens. The Data Hub is a transformational leap in the right direction, making government work better for everyone.”
The hub is expected to support the Department of Commerce's initiatives in driving economic growth and attracting investment by providing accurate and timely data, leading to better planning and decision-making across sectors.
State Demographer Nigel Haarstad commented, “Data is a powerful tool —critical to nearly every area of modern life. The State Data Hub moves North Dakota forward by providing timely, accessible data that supports informed decisions and creates opportunities for our state.”
