The City of Mandan is promoting its boulevard tree planting program, offering property owners a financial incentive to plant trees. Participants in the program, coordinated with the city's Forestry division, can receive reimbursement for planting approved boulevard trees.

Residents must complete a permit process with Public Works before planting. After planting, the site will be inspected by city staff. The city reimburses up to half the tree's cost, to a maximum of $75 per tree, with a $300 cap per property in 2025, contingent on funding availability.

For reimbursement, residents must provide a sales receipt showing tree species, cost, and seller details to Mandan Public Works within 30 days of purchase. Reimbursement will be issued as a check from Mandan City Hall.

"The program has seen excellent participation," noted a city spokesperson. Since 2017, around 500 trees have been added to city boulevards. The current funding typically supports plantings from April through October.

In 2026, Mandan will celebrate 50 years as a Tree City USA. The city plans to mark the anniversary by encouraging the public to plant 50 boulevard trees by the end of 2025. Information for interested parties can be found at cityofmandan.com/trees or by contacting Public Works at 701-667-3240.

Local guidelines require property owners to maintain clearance for vehicles and pedestrians regarding boulevard trees, as outlined in the Mandan Municipal Code.
