Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota recently held her inaugural telephone town hall, engaging with over 3,000 participants on a range of critical issues. The discussion covered various topics, including Social Security, Medicaid, and strategies to assist families in reducing costs.
During the town hall, Fedorchak assured attendees that "cuts to Social Security are 'not on the table'." She affirmed the importance of ensuring that those who pay into the system receive their benefits. "People pay into Social Security their whole working life. They deserve to get that money—it’s their money," she stated.
On Medicaid, Fedorchak focused on preserving the program for those who need it, using Krisanna from Bismarck's son as an example. She emphasized that "we will spend more money tomorrow on Medicaid than we're spending today." Fedorchak discussed various solutions to curb the program's unsustainable growth.
Turning to the economy, Fedorchak cited the discontent among Americans, stating: "75 percent of Americans believed the country was on the wrong track." She commended former President Donald Trump for targeting inefficiencies in government.
Fedorchak also addressed trade, specifically with Canada. She expressed hope that the U.S. would remain strong trade allies with Canada and supported "reciprocal tariffs" as a fair strategy. She maintained that these tariffs should be "targeted and short-term."
Regarding Trump’s broader agenda, Fedorchak voiced support for his presidency, highlighting efforts in border security and energy development. She stated, "President Trump is fighting issues that have long been ignored in our country."
Fedorchak backed the proposal to abolish the federal Department of Education, favoring greater control for parents and local authorities. She criticized the involvement of federal bureaucracy in education funding.
Discussing the cost of living, Fedorchak acknowledged potential short-term price increases but stressed the need for fiscal prudence in government spending. She highlighted the significance of Trump's 2017 tax cuts, advocating for their extension.
On national security, Fedorchak underscored the importance of addressing security concerns internationally. According to her, President Trump is actively working to combat global terrorism.
Fedorchak intends to continue hosting town halls to communicate with constituents about her work in Washington D.C. Details of the next session will be announced soon.
