Bismarck's yard waste collection sites are set to open on March 29th. Residents are reminded to adhere to the guidelines provided to ensure the continuation of this service. It is important not to dump grass directly on the ground. If containers at a site are full, users should either find another location or return later.
For those with trailers full of grass, disposal should be done at the landfill during regular hours. The city emphasizes that commercial dumping is prohibited.
Yard waste is compostable and can be reused; however, if unacceptable items are mixed with yard waste, it leads to contamination. Contaminated loads must be buried at Site 1 along with other garbage, which reduces landfill lifespan and increases costs for taxpayers.
Acceptable items for disposal include flowers, garden waste, grass clippings, leaves, pinecones, and tree branches and twigs. Unacceptable items comprise animal waste, food waste, any kind of garbage or plastic bags, and sod.
