The Bismarck Fire Department responded to a fire at a commercial building on the south side of town on Monday night. The incident occurred at approximately 8:42 PM on March 17, 2025, when the department received a call about a structure fire in the 2500 block of Lockheed Drive.

Fire crews were dispatched and arrived at the scene by 8:48 PM, finding smoke emanating from an open door. Firefighters entered through this door and encountered heavy smoke throughout the building. They located an area on the second floor where the building's fire sprinkler system had activated and extinguished a fire. Additional crews searched to ensure everyone was evacuated safely, conducted overhaul operations to extinguish smoldering materials, and vented smoke from the premises.

No injuries were reported among workers or firefighters during this incident. The damage from the fire was contained to its room of origin, though there was smoke damage throughout other parts of the structure. An investigation determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.

The building's sprinkler system is credited with automatically extinguishing the fire, thus minimizing damage and potential loss. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), buildings equipped with such systems see fires contained to their origin room in 97% of cases, potentially reducing damage by up to 90%.
