Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) has announced a new initiative from the AI and Energy Working Group aimed at addressing the energy demands associated with artificial intelligence (AI). The group is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to gather input from various stakeholders on how to ensure reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy access.

"To be AI dominant, we must first be energy dominant. In 2024, data centers accounted for 4.3% of total U.S. power demand, and analysts predict this could climb to as much as 12% by 2030—more electricity than the entire state of Texas uses today. Yet, the U.S. isn't scaling up reliable baseload power quickly enough to support this rapid growth,” said Fedorchak. “My goal is to bring in experts and stakeholders, legislators, and other interested parties to craft a legislative framework that secures our energy dominance, strengthens our electric grid, and positions America as the global leader in AI. Meeting the energy demands of AI isn’t just about powering technology—it's about powering America’s future. I look forward to working with a broad range of voices to achieve these goals.”

The RFI focuses on three main areas: American Energy Dominance and AI Energy Demands; Securing the Energy Grid; and Strategic Competition: Outpacing China.

Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their responses by May 15, 2025. These submissions will contribute to legislative recommendations aimed at enhancing America's energy infrastructure while maintaining leadership in AI development.
