The Northwoods League Foundation has announced plans to award 24 equipment grants to youth baseball and softball organizations through its Share the Glove initiative this spring. Each grant will provide a set of catcher’s gear, nine fielding gloves, six batting helmets, three bats, and a bucket of practice balls.
Tina Coil, Deputy Commissioner of the Northwoods League, emphasized the importance of the program by stating, “The Share the Glove program embodies the Foundation’s mission of supporting local communities through a shared love for the games of softball and baseball.” She added that distributing equipment directly to young players is an effective way to nurture future generations of athletes and fans.
Affiliate teams within the Northwoods League will manage the application process in their respective communities throughout spring. The distribution of baseball and softball grants will be divided among various locations. Baseball grants are designated for communities including Battle Creek, MI; Fond du Lac, WI; Green Bay, WI; Kalamazoo, MI; Kenosha, WI; Lakeshore, WI; Madison, WI; Rockford, IL; Royal Oak, MI; Traverse City, MI; Wausau, WI; and Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Softball grants will go to Bismarck, ND; Dickinson, ND; Duluth, MN; Eau Claire, WI; La Crosse, WI; Mankato, MN; Minot, ND; Rochester, MN; St. Cloud, MN; Thunder Bay, ONT; Waterloo IA.; and Willmar MN.
From locally collected applications in these areas one recipient will be selected by the Northwoods League Foundation in each community. Organizations applying must meet specific criteria outlined by the foundation.
