On February 19, 2025, a serious injury crash occurred at the 194 mile marker on the eastbound lanes. The incident took place at approximately 6:37 PM Mountain Time. Road conditions were reported as good and seasonal, with clear weather at the time of the crash.

The crash involved a rollover of a 2002 Chevrolet S10. The vehicle was traveling from Dickinson to Richardton at a speed of 75 mph when it left the roadway, entered the median, and overturned. The driver, a 42-year-old male from Richardton, North Dakota, was not wearing restraints and sustained serious injuries. He has been charged with driving under the influence — refusal and criminal vehicular injury.

A female passenger, aged 29 and also from Richardton, was in the vehicle. She was unrestrained and suffered serious injuries as well. Following the accident, she was flown to Fargo, North Dakota for medical treatment.

Agencies involved in responding to this incident included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Stark County Sheriff's Office, Dickinson Ambulance, and Richardton Ambulance. The investigation into this crash is ongoing by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
