Sgt. Coby Hubble was honored with the NDHP Distinguished Service Medal for his actions during the wildfires in Williams County on October 5, 2024. Sgt. Hubble drove into the fire zone to search for victims and assist in evacuations. He found a vehicle stranded on a county road with an occupant suffering from severe third-degree burns.
Recognizing the urgency, Hubble transported the victim in his patrol car, coordinating with State Radio to arrange an ambulance handover at a predetermined location. Upon meeting the ambulance, paramedics determined that all their attention was needed for the patient, prompting Hubble to drive the ambulance to allow them to provide care.
Despite efforts, the victim did not survive. However, Sgt. Hubble's actions were acknowledged as giving him a fighting chance.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday, February 6, in Stanley. Sgt. Hubble is the seventh recipient of this award. During the same event, Sgt. Preston Langer, Trooper Mathew Lee, Trooper Alyson Moses, and Trooper Landon Jacobson received the Colonel's Award for Excellence for their work during the fires.
