Anne Cleary Commissioner | City of Bismarck
The City of Bismarck has appointed Michael Mart as the new Public Works Utility Operations Director. Mart is set to begin his duties later this month, following his acceptance of the city's offer.
Mart's career with the City of Bismarck began in 2012 within the Engineering Department. He started as an Engineering Technician and progressed to Project Engineer before becoming a Senior Project Engineer in January 2020.
Bismarck City Commissioner Greg Zenker expressed confidence in Mart's appointment, stating, "Michael is a wonderful addition to our Public Works Utility Operations Department." Zenker highlighted Mart's experience and adaptability, adding, "We’re looking forward to how he can translate those experiences into this leadership role for our Utility Operations."
Mart will take over from Michelle Klose, who plans to retire in March after serving as the director since 2016.
Mart holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from North Dakota State University and obtained his Professional Engineering License in 2016.
The Public Works Utility Operations department manages several essential services across Bismarck, including Industrial Pretreatment Program, Sanitary Sewer, Stormwater Infrastructure, Utility Billing, Wastewater Treatment, and Water Treatment Plant.
