The University of Mary is preparing to participate in Giving Hearts Day 2025, a major fundraising event set for February 13. This initiative aims to support scholarships and campus development projects at the university.
Organized by the Dakota Medical Foundation, Giving Hearts Day has been a significant event since 2008, raising nearly $195 million for regional charities. In 2024, it reached a record $29 million from over 40,000 donors. The University of Mary ensures that all donations directly benefit its students and campus community.
Michael Mortenson, director of Alumni Relationships at the University of Mary, emphasized the impact of these contributions: “Each year, an astounding 99% of incoming undergraduate students receive a scholarship so they can attend the University of Mary and eventually fulfill their life and career dreams.”
Donations will support three main areas: the Marauders Armada Scholarship for scholar-athletes, the Sister Thomas Welder Leadership Scholarship for full-time undergraduates, and Phase II of the Vision 2030 Capital Campaign. Ilona Freitag, a senior Kinesiology major and tennis player at the university, shared her gratitude: “With the help of all the donations to the Marauders Armada, I have been able to pursue an education while competing for the sport that I love: tennis.”
The Vision 2030 Capital Campaign includes developing a new Athletics Complex and Welcome Center on campus. These projects aim to enhance student experiences and provide essential services.
The university encourages supporters to contribute on Giving Hearts Day by visiting their website on February 13 or scheduling gifts in advance.
