Fifth and sixth grade teachers in North Dakota are being encouraged to apply for sugar science kits, as part of Ag Literacy Week scheduled for March 17-21, 2025. These kits are offered by the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program along with the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring expressed his support for this initiative, stating, "I encourage educators to take advantage of this opportunity to embed agriculture into their classrooms." He emphasized that students will engage with agriculture and science through STEM activities that align with state standards. With upcoming ag literacy week and related celebrations, Goehring sees this as an ideal time for integrating these materials into educational settings.
The program will provide the first 25 qualified educators who apply with sugar science kits. These kits include resources covering science, technology, engineering, and math subjects. Educators have until April 23, 2025, to utilize these kits in their teaching. Additionally, they must complete follow-up surveys from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture for reporting purposes. Interested teachers can access the application at https://www.ndda.nd.gov/sugarscience.
