Doug Burgum confirmed as Interior Secretary with bipartisan support

Senator John Hoeven announced the confirmation of Doug Burgum as Secretary of the Interior by the U.S. Senate with a vote of 79 to 18. As a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Hoeven played a key role in advancing Burgum's nomination through the Senate.

Hoeven emphasized Burgum's understanding of public lands issues and his support from Native American tribes. "With the right kind of policies and a focus on innovation, our nation can be energy dominant, supporting a more secure nation, a stronger economy and more affordable living for the American people," said Hoeven. He added that Burgum recognizes "the potential of our abundant, taxpayer-owned energy resources" and has strong relationships with Native American tribes.

Hoeven plans to collaborate with Burgum in his new role as Interior Secretary to address what he describes as harmful policies from the Biden-Harris administration. Among Hoeven’s priorities are challenging federal rules imposed by President Biden through the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). These include opposing measures like the Public Lands Rule, which affects management practices over millions of acres, and revising North Dakota's Resource Management Plan to allow more leasing opportunities for oil, gas, and coal.

Additionally, Hoeven aims to advance his BLM Mineral Spacing Act to streamline permitting processes and respect private mineral rights.
