The University of Mary is gearing up for its seventh annual Giving Day on Thursday, November 21. The event seeks to fund four key initiatives that contribute to student experiences and enhance the campus: the Sister Thomas Welder Scholarship, Marauders Armada Athletic Scholarships, a new Welcome Center, and the Marauders Athletics Complex.

With a target of 275 donors, the university is hopeful for continued support from alumni, friends, and benefactors. Michael Mortenson, director of Alumni Relationships at the University of Mary, describes Giving Day as an opportunity to make a significant impact on students' lives. "We have the opportunity to truly change students’ lives. Past supporters have shown us the profound difference they can make, and this year, we extend a heartfelt invitation to all who can contribute," Mortenson said. He expressed confidence in surpassing their goal to benefit various aspects of university life.

One major focus of Giving Day is the Sister Thomas Welder Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship honors Sister Thomas Welder's legacy at the university by supporting full-time undergraduate students for up to eight semesters. Sister Welder was recognized for her commitment to Christ-centered servant leadership and student development during her more than thirty years with the institution before passing away in 2020.

Another priority is the Marauders Armada Athletic Scholarships. These scholarships align with the university's strategic plan titled "Greatness Through Virtue." They play a crucial role in helping scholar-athletes grow through virtuous leadership and character formation. Mortenson emphasized that athletics are about more than just winning; they are about fostering friendships and virtues that shape athletes' lives beyond sports.
