Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee, announced over $24 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awards for North Dakota airports. This includes $8.5 million for Hector International Airport's Terminal Expansion Project. Senator Hoeven has been working to fulfill the project's federal cost share, having secured nearly $34 million for the effort to date. Additionally, Minot International Airport and Bismarck Municipal Airport will receive nearly $16 million to rehabilitate and reconstruct existing taxiways.
The specific grants include:
- $8,538,478 for Hector International Airport to construct a new public use deicing pad with a containment facility and associated equipment and expand the existing terminal apron. This is part of an ongoing effort that includes an initial $10 million grant from the FAA awarded earlier this year and $15 million from programs like the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which Hoeven helps fund through annual appropriations legislation.
- $9,814,070 for Bismarck Municipal Airport to reconstruct existing paved taxiway pavement that has reached the end of its useful life.
- $6,146,688 for Minot International Airport to rehabilitate existing paved taxiways to maintain structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris.
“The FAA’s funding will support continued efforts for the Hector International Terminal Expansion as well as vital rehabilitation and reconstruction at Bismarck and Minot airports,” said Hoeven. “It’s imperative that North Dakotans are able to fly and travel safely throughout the state and country, and we will continue to work to secure funding for these major airport updates.”
