WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven voted to hold Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for failing to uphold the law and secure the border. Hoeven, along with 42 other senators, made the case for the Senate to fulfill its constitutional duty by holding a trial to consider the impeachment articles.

"Secretary Mayorkas needs to be held responsible for failing to uphold the law and secure the border. Under oath, he has repeatedly refused to admit that there is a crisis at our southern border and instead sought to mislead Congress regarding the Biden administration’s policies, while obfuscating his responsibility to uphold our immigration laws and ensure our borders are secure," said Senator Hoeven.

Hoeven emphasized, "The record increase of illegal crossings at the southern border poses a threat to U.S. national security, and is directly linked to his willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law, and resulting breach of public trust. We must hold him accountable."

In a letter to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Hoeven and the other senators outlined the crisis at the border and the constitutional duty of the Senate to hold a trial to consider the impeachment articles.
