Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library
The Bismarck Public Library is marking National Friends of Libraries Week from October 19 to 25. The library highlights the role of the Friends of the Bismarck Public Library, a volunteer group that supports the institution through fundraising and community projects.
Membership in the Friends organization allows individuals to contribute their time and skills to various volunteer activities. One of the main efforts includes organizing two used book sales each year. These events generate more than $40,000 annually, which goes toward supporting library programs and services that are not covered by the regular operating budget.
Funds raised by the Friends have recently been used for several initiatives. These include purchasing a 3D printer for Teen HQ, which gives students in grades 6 through 12 access to new technology. Other supported projects are colorful book-themed window art on the library’s new 6th Street windows and ongoing support for the Mobile Library program, which brings library resources to residents unable to visit in person.
