The City of Bismarck Community Development Department has announced a series of public input sessions in October and November for its Land Development Code (LDC) project. The initiative, which began in fall 2024, aims to revise Title 14, the city’s current zoning regulations, and establish a new set of guidelines for future development in Bismarck.

City staff, along with consultants, have attended various community events such as Bismarket and the Street Fair to increase awareness and collect feedback. Acting Community Development Director Daniel Nairn stated, “We want to make it easier for people to share their thoughts on this project by going to places and events where they are already.”

To further encourage community participation, the department will hold additional input sessions at two local coffee shops: Anima Cucina (101 N 5th St) and Boneshaker Coffee (1501 Mapleton Ave). The events are scheduled for mornings and afternoons on multiple dates throughout October and November.

At Anima Cucina, sessions will take place on October 21 (1:30-3:00 PM), October 23 (8:30-10:00 AM), November 4 (1:30-3:00 PM), November 6 (8:30-10:00 AM), November 18 (1:30-3:00 PM), and November 20 (8:30-10:00 AM). Boneshaker Coffee will host sessions on October 27 (1:30-3:00 PM), October 29 (8:30-10:00 AM), November 10 (1:30-3:00 PM), November 12 (8:30-10:00 AM), November 24 (1:30-3:00 PM), and November 26 (8:30-10:00 AM).

Nairn described the project as significant for the community’s future. “This project is a once-in-a generation opportunity,” he said. “We want to make sure it reflects our community priorities both now and for in the future.”

Residents can direct questions or comments about the project to the Community Development Department’s Planning Division by phone at 701-355-1840 or by email. Attendees are responsible for their own food and beverage purchases during these sessions.
