Mandan seeks volunteers for board openings beginning in 2026

The Mandan City Commission is seeking applicants for 20 open positions on 10 city boards and committees, with appointments set to begin in 2026. These boards play a role in city governance and community development.

Applications are being accepted online at cityofmandan.com/boardapplication. The commission encourages both business community members and residents to apply by October 31 or until the positions are filled.

Openings include one position on the Airport Authority for a five-year term ending in 2030. This board advises on planning, maintenance, and management of the Mandan Regional Airport – Lawler Field. Meetings typically occur six to nine times annually.

The Architectural Review Commission has two openings for three-year terms expiring December 31, 2028. Appointees should be residents, business owners or operators, or property owners within the city. Experience in design, construction, or engineering is preferred but not required. The commission reviews commercial building plans before construction or exterior alterations.

Four seats are available on the Code Enforcement Appeals Board for three-year terms ending December 31, 2028. Members must be Mandan residents and review appeals of code enforcement violations as needed.

Three positions are open on the Community Beautification Committee through 2028 for residents or representatives of businesses that own property in Mandan. This committee coordinates projects to enhance the city's appearance and meets every other month.

The Growth Fund seeks two members for three-year terms ending in 2028. Candidates can be business representatives or residents of Mandan and will make recommendations about financial assistance to businesses considering expansion or relocation within Mandan.

One four-year term is available with the Parking Authority through 2029. Applicants must be downtown business owners or their representatives; this group monitors parking availability and works with city departments on enforcement and policy issues as needed.

Two at-large positions are open on the Planning & Zoning Commission for five-year terms ending in 2030. Applicants must reside within city limits and will review zoning changes, plats, annexations, and development plans during monthly meetings.

The Renaissance Zone Committee has three seats available for three-year terms ending in 2028—two representing local businesses or residents and one from the financial sector. The committee evaluates applications related to tax exemptions for investments in designated downtown areas.

A single opening exists on the Special Assessment Commission through December 31, 2031. This body determines benefit amounts from public improvement projects within districts; familiarity with assessment policy is helpful. Compensation is $35 per meeting.

Lastly, one position is available on the Visitors Committee for a three-year term. Members may represent businesses or be residents of Mandan; they make funding recommendations related to tourism facilities using a portion of local restaurant and lodging tax revenue.

"Members of the business community and residents are encouraged to apply by Oct. 31 or until positions are filled," according to information released by the City Commission.
