The City Commission has approved a ten-year extension of the Renaissance Zone program, which was first established in 2005 to promote revitalization efforts in Mandan's central areas and encourage both business and residential growth. The decision to continue the program was made on August 5.

Support for the extension came from Morton County, the Mandan School Board, and the Park Board. Since its inception, the Renaissance Zone initiative has contributed to significant development progress in downtown Mandan through collaboration with local developers.

As part of renewing the program, city officials updated Mandan’s development plan. The new plan outlines goals and eligibility criteria for properties within designated blocks, including both commercial and residential buildings. Those who meet minimum investment requirements for building improvements may qualify for up to a 100% property tax exemption for five years as well as a full state income tax exemption over the same period.

The Business Development and Communications Department oversees administration of the Renaissance Zone program, handling applications, project finalization, and compliance monitoring. Following approval by the City Commission, the request for an extension was submitted to—and subsequently approved by—the State of North Dakota.
