The city of Mandan has announced that the Mandan Police Department will host its eighth annual Grill With a Cop event on Thursday, August 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Eagles Park Shelter 1.
According to a press release, community members of all ages are invited to attend the free event, where officers and staff will serve hot dogs, brats, and hamburgers. First responders and city vehicles will be on display, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet law enforcement personnel. The event is held to thank the public for their continued support and to provide an evening of community engagement and fun.
The Mandan Police Department includes several specialized divisions such as Administration, Patrol, Investigations, Youth Services, and Animal Control. According to the city of Mandan, the department’s mission is to deliver high-quality law enforcement services, maintain public order, protect individual rights, and build community trust through fair and community-based policing. Its core values are vigilance, accountability, loyalty, unity, excellence, and servant leadership.
Mandan had an estimated population of 24,586 as of July 1, 2023. The city has historical roots as a Mandan tribe village, cavalry fort, and railroad hub. It hosts annual events such as Touch-A-Truck, Buggies-n-Blues, and Rodeo Days that attract thousands of visitors each year. The city offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, museums, walking and biking trails, and a water park. Mandan is part of the Bismarck-Mandan metropolitan area which had approximately 129,641 residents in 2020. In 2023 the city generated about $3.4 million from a 1% local sales tax and reduced its mill levy from 98 mills in 2009 to 64 mills.
