At Dickinson State University, leadership is a core focus. The Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) aims to develop students into impactful leaders both on campus and beyond.
The program is designed for on-campus students seeking academic and personal challenges. Participants earn a Leadership Studies minor, a certificate, and a medallion for commencement. However, the primary benefit is the confidence and experience gained.
Students in the program engage in various activities beyond traditional classes. They volunteer, participate in study tours, present at national conferences, and interact with regional leaders. They contribute to community service, support campus events, and engage in discussions about leadership.
Camille Poncin from Pray, Montana will join the program as an incoming biology major this fall. “I first looked at DSU because of golf," she said. "The TR Honors Program stood out because it pushes you to grow and meet people who care about their future too.”
Michelle Orton leads the program with a focus on helping students discover their strengths. “We want students to be the best version of themselves,” she stated. “That means supporting others, working together, and leading by example.”
Scholarships from the DSU Heritage Foundation make the program financially accessible for eligible students.
The TRHLP emphasizes building meaningful futures through leadership with heart. Students are encouraged to lead actively rather than waiting for future opportunities.
