The City of Mandan has announced a series of street closures, traffic detours, and parking restrictions in preparation for Art in the Park, Mandan Rodeo Days, and the Independence Day Parade.
According to a press release from the city, Main Street will be closed from First Ave NW to Sixth Ave NW starting early July 2 through the evening of July 4 for Art in the Park, which is held in Dykshoorn and Heritage Parks. Additional nearby streets will also experience closures, including Third Ave NW, with restricted access at Second and Fourth Ave NW. A temporary four-way stop will be installed at First Street and Third Ave NW, rerouting traffic via Collins Ave and Sixth Ave NW.
Rodeo contestants are advised to use Exit 153 from Interstate 94 or turn onto 10th Ave NW from Main Street to reach Dacotah Centennial Park. The Independence Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on July 4, with staging along West Memorial Highway. Due to reconstruction efforts, public viewing along the highway will not be available this year; spectators are encouraged to watch from Main Street or nearby public areas.
Main Street will face additional closures from Mandan Ave to 10th Ave NW starting at 7 a.m. on July 4. West Memorial Highway and 24th Ave SE will also be closed for parade staging purposes. Exit 155 from I-94 will be inaccessible, with detours provided at Exits 152 and 153. Parking restrictions on Main Street begin at 1 a.m. on July 4; vehicles parked in violation may face ticketing or towing actions. A free shuttle service will operate between the Bank of North Dakota and Family Fare to downtown from 8 a.m. until the last return trip at 2 p.m.
Mandan's population was estimated at approximately 24,586 as of July 1, 2023, according to the State Data Center. The city is noted for its historical significance as a village for the Mandan tribe, a cavalry fort location, and a railroad hub. It continues to grow while hosting annual events such as Touch-A-Truck, Rodeo Days, and Buggies-n-Blues that draw thousands of visitors each year. The city offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, and museums.
