The city of Mandan has announced that milling and removal work is currently underway as part of the ongoing Memorial Highway reconstruction project.
According to the city, drivers are advised to remain alert and exercise extra caution in the Memorial Highway construction zone due to increased truck traffic and the presence of flaggers directing vehicles. On 40th Avenue SE, traffic has been shifted to a temporary roadway to accommodate ongoing work. Meanwhile, 19th Street SE reopened in May following the completion of utility and storm sewer upgrades. However, 21st Street SE remains closed for the installation of an underground stormwater trunk line, with reopening expected by late June, pending weather or other delays. A signed detour is in place, and drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes accordingly.
Construction has begun on a new lift station at 40th Avenue SE, which will pump wastewater from lower to higher elevations, reducing excavation costs compared to traditional sewer pipe installations. This project involves shifting 40th Avenue SE back to its original alignment while Memorial Highway traffic will use a newly constructed temporary roadway surface. Throughout the project, one lane in each direction plus a center turn lane will remain open to maintain traffic flow. Speed limits have been lowered to 25 mph, and there is an 11-foot width restriction for vehicles passing through.
Ongoing work includes removing existing pavement, grading the roadway, and constructing temporary surfaces along Memorial Highway. Lane directions and locations will shift frequently as crews progress through different sections. Drivers are reminded to slow down in the work zone, follow signage and flaggers’ instructions, and continue supporting local businesses along "The Strip."
