The city of Mandan has announced the launch of the Memorial Card digital gift card program, aimed at supporting businesses along Memorial Highway that have been impacted by ongoing construction.

According to the city of Mandan, this digital gift card initiative was introduced over Memorial Day weekend to stimulate spending at businesses affected by the reconstruction of Memorial Highway. The cards, available through visitmandan.com, offer a 25% bonus funded by the Mandan Growth Fund. Both the original and bonus cards are delivered digitally and can be used at participating businesses within special assessment districts. They are processed like standard credit card payments.

Approved in April with $50,000 in funding, this initiative follows feedback from businesses indicating strong support for such measures. It aims to increase customer traffic during the three-year, two-phase road project. Businesses incur no participation costs beyond regular credit card fees. This program is a continuation of a similar effort from the 1990s that supported Main Street merchants during construction.

The Mandan Progress Organization (MPO), established in 1993, supports Mandan’s economic and cultural development by coordinating community events and strengthening partnerships among local governments, businesses, and organizations. Since updating its mission in 2021, MPO has focused on promoting local businesses and hosting signature events that enhance community engagement. With its 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, MPO aims to further unify the Mandan-Morton County and Bismarck metro area by creating inclusive experiences and fostering partnerships. Key initiatives include 'Visit Mandan' tourism branding and the annual 'Mandan Holiday Lights on Main.'

Mandan has an estimated population of 24,586 as of July 1, 2023, according to the State Data Center. Known for its historical roots as a village for the Mandan tribe, a cavalry fort, and a railroad hub, Mandan continues to grow. The city hosts annual events such as Touch-A-Truck, Rodeo Days, and Buggies-n-Blues that attract thousands of visitors. It also offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, and museums.
