On May 9, 2025, a fatal motorcycle crash occurred on 153rd St NW, between 79th Ave SE and 93rd Ave SE, north of Sawyer. The incident happened between 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm CT. The road and weather conditions were reported as good at the time of the crash.
The single-vehicle accident involved a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Brock Savelkoul, a 43-year-old male from Minot, ND. Unfortunately, Savelkoul lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and succumbed to his injuries.
Agencies that responded to the scene included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Ward County Sheriff's Office, Trinity First Response, and Sawyer Fire Department. No charges have been filed in connection with this incident.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
