Pursuit ends in crash involving multiple injuries in Stutsman County

On May 10, 2025, at 7:50 am, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) responded to a report of a reckless driver traveling eastbound on I-94 from Kidder County. The vehicle, identified as a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was located near mile marker 242 heading east. After committing driving violations, the driver accelerated to speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The pursuit continued until the vehicle exited I-94 at mile marker 257. The NDHP terminated the pursuit when the Monte Carlo entered the southwest area of Jamestown. Shortly after, the Jamestown Police Department found the vehicle and attempted another traffic stop. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a GMC Sierra 1500 at the intersection of 10th Street and 7th Avenue SE.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, Jamie Barnes, an 18-year-old from Bismarck, ND, was charged with several offenses including "Fleeing 1st offense – A misdemeanor," "DUI-Drugs; Minor 1st offense – A misdemeanor," and "Reckless endangerment - C felony." Three juveniles were passengers in Barnes' vehicle and sustained injuries. Their names will not be released.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, Matthew Grounds, a 30-year-old from Jamestown, ND, was treated for reported injuries. All individuals involved were using seatbelts at the time of the crash.
