On May 12, a collision occurred on Highway 2, about three miles west of Ray, North Dakota. The incident involved two vehicles: a 2021 Ford F350 and a 2007 Peterbilt truck pulling a loaded grain trailer.

The driver of the Ford F350, Richard Hopkins, aged 44 from Tioga, ND, sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Tioga Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Peterbilt truck, Kasey Knox, aged 32 from Ray, ND, was not injured and also had his seatbelt on.

According to reports from the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP), Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Ray Fire and Rescue, and Ray Ambulance who responded to the scene, the crash happened when Knox slowed down to make a right turn onto 118th Ave NW. Hopkins's vehicle then struck the rear of Knox's grain trailer.

The westbound lanes of Highway 2 were closed for approximately five hours following the incident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
