As part of the ongoing Memorial Highway reconstruction project, Mandan will experience significant traffic changes this month. On May 13, 19th Street Southeast is set to reopen, restoring a crucial north-south route in the area. This reopening precedes the temporary closure of 21st Street Southeast on May 15, which will last approximately one month. The closure affects the stretch between Shoal Loop Southeast and 46th Avenue Southeast for storm sewer installation, though Shoal Loop Southeast will remain accessible.
During this period, drivers are advised to use 19th Street Southeast or alternative routes to avoid delays and ensure smooth traffic flow. These adjustments are part of phased infrastructure improvements supporting the broader Memorial Highway drainage and roadway reconstruction efforts.
Motorists are urged to follow posted detour signs, reduce speed, and exercise caution around construction zones. Pedestrians should avoid active work areas for their safety and that of construction crews.
"We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this important work continues," stated a representative from the project team. For updates and further information, residents can visit www.dot.nd.gov/memorialhwy.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation advises all motorists to drive safely and remain vigilant in work zones.
