The US National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for May 12, 2025, affecting the Bismarck area. The warning is in effect until 9 PM today. This warning highlights critical fire weather conditions characterized by high winds and low relative humidity, which can lead to fires starting quickly, spreading rapidly, and burning intensely.

The Bismarck Fire Department has reminded city residents that additional burn restrictions are in place during a Red Flag Warning. These restrictions apply when the fire danger index reaches "Very High" or "Extreme" levels. Under these conditions, all recreational burning is banned. This includes outdoor fire pits, fireplaces, portable outdoor fireplaces, and chimineas.

Furthermore, any outdoor cooking appliances using solid fuels such as wood, charcoal briquettes, and pellets are restricted during a Red Flag Warning or when the fire danger index is at elevated levels. Gas grills may still be used; however, it is advised to keep the lid closed and attend to the grill while in use. Additionally, having on-site capability to extinguish a fire if necessary is recommended.

For more information about burn restrictions in Bismarck, residents are encouraged to visit the Fire Department website and select “Burn Restrictions.”
