Governor Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota recently met with Lee Zeldin, the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in Washington, D.C. The discussion centered on collaboration between North Dakota and the federal government to protect natural resources while supporting energy development and economic growth.
Armstrong and Zeldin addressed the significance of state partnerships with the EPA to advance a deregulation agenda initiated during President Trump's administration. They also discussed repealing what they consider an overreaching rule on power plants from the Biden administration and ensuring agricultural producers have access to essential crop protection tools. Armstrong highlighted a pesticide labeling bill he signed, which was passed by the North Dakota Legislature with support from major farm commodity groups. This legislation is intended to ensure that farmers in North Dakota continue to have access to critical tools for agriculture.
"When it comes to protecting North Dakota’s ability to produce food and energy to feed and fuel the world, we could not have a better friend in the EPA than Lee Zeldin," Armstrong stated. "We look forward to continuing this partnership to roll back regulations, support our farmers and ranchers and unleash U.S. energy production with environmental stewardship."
Both Armstrong and Zeldin served together in Congress for four years when Zeldin represented New York’s District 1. Zeldin assumed his role as the 17th administrator of the EPA on January 29 following his nomination by President Trump and confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
