National Public Works Week (NPWW) 2025 is scheduled for May 18–24 and focuses on the theme "People, Purpose, Presence," highlighting the significant role of public works professionals in enhancing quality of life, often without recognition. Since its inception in 1960, NPWW has aimed to raise awareness about the importance of public works in communities. It receives support from over 32,000 members of the American Public Works Association (APWA) across the U.S. and Canada. The APWA encourages municipalities to highlight public works' contributions through various educational initiatives and public proclamations echoing President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 praise for these essential services.

The city offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, and museums.

The city of Mandan Public Works Department manages a range of municipal services including forestry, grounds maintenance, landfill operations, household garbage and recycling collection, cemetery care, street maintenance, and utility management.
