The city of Mandan has announced the launch of the "Bismarck-Mandan: Where Home is More than Hello" initiative. This collaborative effort involves Bismarck's mayor's office and the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to encourage residents to make the area more welcoming to newcomers.

According to a press release, the campaign aims to help newcomers feel welcome and settle permanently in the area, thereby boosting local businesses, creating jobs, enhancing healthcare and education, and fostering a vibrant community. With an increasing population and many residents arriving from out of state, the initiative includes resources like the Make Your Mark Bismarck-Mandan website for connecting with local organizations. Businesses can show support by displaying window clings, and presentations are available to educate residents and businesses on the effort.

"New people are coming to Bismarck-Mandan as students at the University of Mary and Bismarck State College, retired people from rural North Dakota, temporary employees in our healthcare organizations, local businesses for workforce, and legal immigrants," said Brenda Nagel, Director of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC. She added that it is logical to make efforts to welcome them well so they want to stay.

The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC was established in 2019 through a merger of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce and BMDA. It focuses on policy advocacy, economic and workforce development, and leadership programs for over 1,200 members. The organization serves as a connector and resource hub for businesses in Bismarck and Mandan, promoting economic growth through initiatives supported by volunteer committees in areas like local issues and government affairs. Guidance is provided by a 19-member board of directors.

Mandan has an estimated population of 24,586 as of July 1, 2023, according to the State Data Center. Known for its historical roots as a village for the Mandan tribe, a cavalry fort, and a railroad hub, Mandan continues to grow. The city hosts annual events such as Touch-A-Truck, Rodeo Days, and Buggies-n-Blues that attract thousands of visitors. It offers various recreational facilities including parks, sports complexes, and museums.
