Bismarck Mayor Mike Schmitz is seeking candidates for a position on the Civil Service Commission. This volunteer role involves a five-year term starting July 1, 2025. Eligible candidates must reside in Bismarck and support employment based on merit and fitness.

The Civil Service Commission, an advisory board with three members, addresses issues related to the Personnel Regulations and Benefits Ordinance of Bismarck. The commission's duties include proposing rules and regulations to City Commissioners, hearing appeals on disciplinary cases, investigating complaints related to civil service matters, reporting recommendations to the Board of City Commissioners, and conducting special analyses as requested by the board.

Applications are due by Monday, May 19, 2025. New board members are expected to be announced at the June 3, 2025, Board of City Commissioners meeting.

Applicants should complete an application form detailing their qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve on the commission. Forms are available on the City of Bismarck website or via a provided link. A resume is required with the application.
