County Commission discusses infrastructure projects and planning updates

The County Commission meeting held on May 6, 2025, commenced at 1:00 PM with the call to order. The agenda was approved promptly at 1:01 PM, followed by the approval of minutes and bills.

At 1:15 PM, Moore Engineering presented on the BNI 37th Ave Overpass project. This was succeeded by a session at 1:30 PM where BNI addressed a petition to work within 100 feet of a County Right of Way, discussed an overpass agreement, and set dates for hearings and findings.

The Road Superintendent took the floor at 1:45 PM. Topics included the superintendent's probation period, Isaiah Geiger's road approach, Mike Schirado's highway utility permit, LoadPass permitting in the Oliver Wind IV Project Area, roads within this area, and a county equipment bid opening. Equipment bids included items such as an Oliver Wheel Packer and a Brush Bandit Model 150 Brush Chipper.

Planning & Zoning updates were provided starting at 2:00 PM. Discussions involved second readings of moratoriums on data center/cryptocurrency facilities (2025-2) and solar energy facilities (2025-3). Conditional Use Permit #1053 for Kortnie Smith/Cory Keating’s house was reviewed alongside Building Permit #1054 for the same project. Building Permit #1061 for Randy & Sarah Becker’s garage was also discussed. Additionally, Treavor Hendrickson made a special meeting request.

Mike Tietz from the Water Resource Board spoke at 2:45 PM. Following him was Sharon Rud from the Center Community Club at 3:00 PM.

Other business covered included portfolio reports, sheriff’s department staffing/deputy matters, meeting days adjustments, community foundation grant discussions, an audit scheduled for June 2 and June 3 by Rath & Mehrer, weed board updates, and concrete updates.
