Bismarck Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) has announced a partnership with Heartview to offer free Narcan training sessions. The event is scheduled for May 14th at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at BBPH's new location at 407 S. 26th St.
“Training our community, and workplaces in the use of Narcan is an important life-saving solution. Safe communities are strong communities. Heartview Foundation is happy to partner with BBPH because this training helps both value people’s lives and saves people’s lives,” stated Cathy Palczewski, Opioid Treatment Program Case Manager.
The training aims to educate participants on recognizing opioid overdoses and administering Narcan correctly. Each participant will receive a free Narcan kit upon completion of the session. Registration is required due to limited space, which can be done by calling (701) 355-1597 or visiting the provided Eventbrite link.
Narcan serves as a medication that temporarily restores breathing during overdoses involving fentanyl or other opioids. “Our goal is to train the public on signs and symptoms of an overdose, the immediate actions they should take to get first responders to the scene and steps to stabilize and potentially revive an individual who has overdosed,” explained Susan Kahler, SAP Coordinator. Funding for these training sessions comes from State Opioid Response Grants.
