Kelly Armstrong, Governor | North Dakota Governor's Office
Gov. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota has instructed all state government agencies to lower the U.S. and North Dakota flags to half-staff on Sunday, May 4. The directive aims to honor Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend across the state, coinciding with the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
Armstrong further encourages residents of North Dakota to follow suit by lowering flags at their homes and workplaces. This action reflects respect for the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters.
The governor’s directive aligns with the North Dakota Century Code and follows a proclamation made by President Donald Trump.
Armstrong, himself a former volunteer firefighter, issued a proclamation naming May 3-4 as Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend in the state. He acknowledged the risks taken by firefighters, stating, "Volunteer and career firefighters place themselves in harm’s way to protect the lives and property of North Dakotans."
