On April 5, 2025, a two-vehicle crash occurred at mile marker 83 on Highway 129, two miles south of Gardner, North Dakota. The incident involved a rear-end collision between a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2017 Nissan Rogue. The road and weather conditions were reported as good and clear.

The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, Elizabeth Denault, a 33-year-old from Grand Forks, ND, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Additional charges for reckless endangerment with extreme indifference are expected to be filed against her.

Wilma Smith, the 76-year-old driver of the Nissan Rogue from Grand Forks, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for treatment. No charges have been filed against Smith.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash. Agencies involved in responding to the incident included the Cass County Sheriff's Department, Grandin Fire Department, Sanford EMS, Hunter Ambulance, and Community Ambulance Service-Rolla.
