The United States Senate has approved an amendment to the budget resolution from the House of Representatives with a narrow vote of 51 to 48. This amended resolution aims to make President Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent, reinforce national defense, enhance border and energy security, and curtail government spending. It will now return to the House for its approval. Both legislative bodies must agree on the budget resolutions to enable the reconciliation process for crafting and advancing legislation.

Senator Kevin Cramer of North Dakota expressed his support for the resolution, stating, "This resolution’s passage is a prime example of Senate Republicans working together to achieve President Trump's agenda and deliver on the promises we made to the American people. Our budget resolution will help us make generational investments to bolster national defense and border security, unleash American energy dominance, cut waste and unnecessary spending, and prevent the largest tax hike in American history. Democrats talk a big game and offer hundreds of unserious amendments, with nothing to show for it other than delaying this process by a few hours. With the passage of this resolution, we are one step closer to creating opportunity and bringing certainty to North Dakota families, businesses, and markets."

The resolution includes provisions for an additional $1.5 trillion in tax cuts, introduces Senate committee instructions while maintaining those from House committees, and establishes savings floors intended to maximize congressional efforts to reduce wasteful spending. It also extends the debt limit to 2027 and sets top-line spending levels.
