Senator John Hoeven has made a public statement following the dismissal of a lawsuit by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which sought to halt operations of the Dakota Access Pipeline during the completion of a court-ordered environmental impact statement (EIS).
"The Dakota Access Pipeline is vital infrastructure for our state and nation, supporting North Dakota's role as an energy powerhouse and strengthening U.S. energy security," Senator Hoeven remarked. He emphasized the pipeline's history of incident-free operation and its extensive environmental evaluations. "Considering DAPL has been operating for years without incident and the layers of environmental review that this pipeline has already gone through, this decision is clearly overdue but the right call."
Hoeven stated that efforts will persist to expedite the final EIS by the Army Corps, seeking to ensure certainty for both the project and the state's energy sector.
The lawsuit's dismissal comes amid ongoing debates concerning energy infrastructure and environmental protection, placing attention on the procedural and operational aspects of projects like the Dakota Access Pipeline.
