Williams County Commissioners have declared a fire emergency and announced burn restrictions for 2025. The restrictions will be enforced whenever the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating is classified as Very High or Extreme in Williams County, or if a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service for the area.

Under these conditions, burning activities such as fireworks, leaves, grass clippings, garbage/pits, construction debris, fallen trees, crop residue or hay land, sloughs, and campfires/bonfires/recreational fires are prohibited.

However, controlled devices can still be used provided they are on a hard non-organic surface at least 15 feet away from vegetation. Additionally, a fire extinguisher or water must be available on-site. These devices include gas grills, charcoal grills, wood-fired/pellet grills, gas patio fireplaces and chimneys, gas camp stoves, and smokers/pellet grills.

For further details regarding the burn restrictions and fire emergency measures in Williams County for 2025, residents are encouraged to contact the Williams County Communications Department at 701-577-4547.
