Senator John Hoeven addressed the U.S. Senate, outlining his efforts to counteract what he describes as the Biden administration's regulatory impact on domestic energy production. During his remarks, Hoeven emphasized a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at blocking President Biden's Natural Gas Tax, part of a broader tax bill passed in 2022. The Senate began voting on this resolution today, with a final decision expected tomorrow.
Hoeven also expressed support for maintaining the national energy emergency declared by former President Trump, which was upheld by a vote of 52 to 47. This emergency declaration is intended to boost U.S. energy resource development and infrastructure.
"We’re working with President Trump to unleash America’s full energy potential and truly make our nation energy dominant," said Hoeven. He stressed the importance of confirming Trump's cabinet officials swiftly and prioritizing departmental leadership to empower U.S. energy production from coal, oil, and gas reserves.
Hoeven criticized the Democrats' natural gas tax rule as regressive and harmful to low-income individuals and small producers in states like North Dakota and Montana. "Instead of new taxes that will curtail production," he stated, "we need to support innovation."
He also discussed collaboration with the Trump administration to replace rules that limit access to taxpayer-owned energy resources: "This is about taking the handcuffs off our energy producers."
Hoeven argued that increasing supply could lower prices for American families and businesses while reducing inflation, growing the economy, creating jobs, enhancing national security, and supporting allies.
