FARGO, N.D. – Senator John Hoeven highlighted North Dakota's leading role in agriculture research and policy shaping during a roundtable discussion with leaders from North Dakota State University (NDSU), Grand Farm, and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS).
"Exciting developments are happening across North Dakota to the benefit of producers in not only in our state, but across the U.S.," said Senator Hoeven.
During the discussion, Senator Hoeven emphasized the importance of the $2 million secured for a new agricultural research policy center at NDSU. He stated, "The $2 million we secured for a new ag research policy center at NDSU will help ensure that local, Midwestern expertise is guiding policymakers in Washington."
In addition to the funding for the research policy center, Senator Hoeven highlighted the significant financial support provided for high-priority research initiatives in North Dakota. He mentioned, "We’ve provided more than $50 million for high-priority research initiatives that are ongoing across North Dakota, helping to strengthen crop genetics, prevent disease, improve yields, and reduce costs for our producers."
The funding includes support for the Grand Farm-NDSU-ARS partnership, aimed at advancing precision agriculture technology. Senator Hoeven noted that this funding supports North Dakota's leadership in the next generation of agriculture technology and complements projects like NDSU's FARMS partnership.
The $50 million in funding for North Dakota agriculture research aligns with other initiatives led by Senator Hoeven, such as the NDSU-led FARMS partnership, which is receiving up to $160 million over ten years under the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines program.
Senator Hoeven's efforts in securing funding for these research priorities in the FY24 legislation are set to have a significant impact on advancing agriculture research and innovation in North Dakota, benefitting producers not only in the state but across the Midwest region.
