Cost of college went up for resident students at Bismarck State College

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.2 percent for 2018-19 at Bismarck State College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

North Dakota residents paid $3,992 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $160 more than the $3,832 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 40 percent more than residents this year, or $5,588. Their price tag was reduced 37.2 percent from $8,896 in 2017-18.

About 93 percent of the school's undergraduate population are North Dakota residents. And about 6 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 83 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 449 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.7 million and 379 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (3,778), 1,463 students used grants or scholarships totaling $5.8 million, and 1,136 students took out $6.4 million in federal student loans.
