Sargent County 4-H had quite a few representatives participating in the Oakes/Sargent Central/Ellendale Alumni Judging Contest in Oakes on Saturday, February 18 in both the crops judging contest and the hippology contest.

Crop Judging:Junior team members Eli O., Carter P. and Faith P. have been practicing weekly with their coach, Melissa Seykora to learn the many aspects involved in the crop judging contest. Junior participants Carter and Faith used their knowledge gained from practices to identify crops, weeds, seeds, insects, equipment, and market grade factors of Hard Red Spring Wheat at the contest.  The team has one more contest left to participate in on Saturday, March 11 in Valley City. Great job and good luck in Valley City crop judgers!

Hippology:Coached by Julie Hassebroek and Christine Bopp, the four teams and one individual member had a great contest. “It was so cool seeing the reactions of the Junior girls, as this was the first ‘award’ for five of them,” says Julie. The Junior teams invited a member from Dickey County to join them as well and the teams placed as follows:Jr team #1 (Alison K., Lily M., Presley S., Tana W.-Dickey) 2nd placeJr Team #2 (Kylie B., Daphne B., Freya H., Laura D.) 3rd placeIntermediate Team #1 (Aubrey H., Samantha T., Mia B.) 4th placeIntermediate Team #2 (Sage B.F., Elsa B.F., Allie W.) 5th placeBrooklynn Bosse entered in the contest as a Senior and was placed as High Individual Senior. The Sargent County 4-H hippology teams should be proud of their accomplishments in the past few contests and we wish them all luck on their future ones!
