Bismarck Mayor Mike Schmitz is seeking candidates for the Civil Service Commission, which has one vacancy for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2025. Eligible candidates must reside in Bismarck and support employment based on merit and fitness.

The Civil Service Commission is a three-member advisory board that addresses matters related to the Personnel Regulations and Benefits Ordinance of the City of Bismarck. Its responsibilities include proposing rules and regulations to City Commissioners, hearing appeals on disciplinary cases, investigating complaints, and making reports to the Board of City Commissioners.

Applications are due by Monday, May 19, 2025. The announcement of new board members is expected at the June 3, 2025 meeting of the Board of City Commissioners.

Applicants should complete an application form detailing their qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve on the Commission. Forms are available on the City of Bismarck website or through a provided link. A resume is required with submissions.
