Pro-life members of Congress, including U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), have introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act ahead of Mother’s Day. The legislation aims to provide resources and support for women during early motherhood stages, encompassing prenatal, postpartum, and early childhood periods.
The MOMS Act incorporates Senator Cramer's Unborn Child Support Act, which offers expectant mothers the option to receive child support from the father during pregnancy. Additionally, it proposes the creation of Pregnancy.gov—a federal platform offering information on adoption agencies, pregnancy resource centers, and a national list of funding opportunities for non-profits and healthcare entities.
A grant program is also included in the bill to aid women in carrying pregnancies to term and caring for newborns. It further seeks to expand access to pre- and post-natal telehealth services in rural and underserved areas.
Senator Cramer has been an advocate for life issues and co-chairs the Congressional Coalition on Adoption. He recently received an A+ rating from Susan B. Anthony List for his consistent voting record in defense of unborn lives.
"Supporting moms throughout motherhood is essential to fostering a culture of life," said Cramer. "The MOMS Act will help provide them with the resources they need in the early stages of motherhood."
Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) emphasized her personal connection as a mother: "At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a comprehensive culture of life... I know firsthand that there is no greater blessing in life than our children."
Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) added: "Being pro-life and pro-family means valuing not only the life of the child but doing everything we can to support moms throughout pregnancy and beyond."
The MOMS Act has garnered support from several other Republican senators including Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Ted Budd (R-NC), John Cornyn (R-TX), among others.
